Society seeks household donations

St. Vincent de Paul is offering a unique thrift store drive that allows the community to fill two trucks that will be in town Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20.

They will be parked at Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.

Over the years, the people of Fountain Hills have helped the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Church of the Ascension to assist those less fortunate.

Those involved truly appreciate residents’ support in allowing them to help others.

The need, however, continues as supplies of furniture, appliances and clothing at the St. Vincent warehouse need to be replenished.

Homeowners can help by donating their unwanted or no-longer-in-use articles on the weekend of Oct. 19.

On that weekend, the church will have two large St. Vincent de Paul trucks stationed on the parish parking lot.

Residents can bring their donated items to the church on that Saturday or Sunday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and dusk.

They will be greeted by St. Vincent de Paul members who will help unload; put small items in boxes or bags. Members will have a receipt available for tax purposes.

If anyone has items they can’t handle, such as a refrigerator, there will be a sign-up sheet at the table by the trucks to request a pick-up.

Pick-up will be done on the same day.

It may seem difficult to believe, but a bag of gently used clothing, a table and chair set, and a blender may yield over $100 in sales for one of eight St. Vincent thrift stores in the Valley.

Store earnings are used to support St. Vincent de Paul programs that help the poor and suffering.
