Somo: Dysfunctional Republican leadership

Posted

I believe that retired General Stanley McChrystal said it best, “Character counts.” Here in Fountain Hills, we have a clear choice to make in our mayoral election.

Unfortunately, one side tries to recycle old news in an attempt to discredit Mayor Dickey.  Social media is full of memes, name-calling and lies. Meanwhile, there are some regular speakers at Town Council who try to belittle the mayor and town programs, and then bristle when they hear that positive speaker cards usually outnumber them. They have also turned in cards at times, using fake names, like “Barak and Michelle Nobama” or “Donald Trumpster” or “Kamala Harrison,” with fake phone numbers and e-mails – to make negative comments on agenda items – just like they sometimes use fake names on social media.

Alternatively, there is actual (not fake) news about some of those doing the discrediting.

A perfect example is the primary election meltdown by Republicans as reported in the Times Independent recently, where competing assault claims were filed following a Republican election night watch party on July 30 at Batchelor Pad, which necessitated police intervention. Real names like Friedel, Kalivanakis and Toth all show up in the reports.

It seems that a few of the Fountain Hills Republicans want to control what others are allowed to say and do. It’s clearly leading to disarray that is part of local Republican leadership. These are the people who want to control our local government.

It's a leadership model that is dysfunctional and disastrous for Fountain Hills. And they know it. It would be a huge mistake to vote for their chosen few.

Instead, reelect Mayor Ginny Dickey, who will continue to provide calm, rational, experienced leadership to move our town forward … for everyone.
