Sonja Ann Neil

Sonja Ann Neil (nee Randklev), age 79, died on Dec. 7, 2016 at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix. Services will be private.

She battled Pulmonary Hypertension for 17 years, but it was cancer that delivered the final blow.

She was born Oct. 12, 1937 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Albert and Angelica Randklev and was raised in Ottumwa, Iowa.

She married Dick Neil on June 9, 1956 in Ottumwa and they moved immediately to Iowa City and thereafter to Des Moines and Urbandale.

After she and Dick retired, they moved to Fountain Hills. Sonja was an avid duplicate bridge player, and a Pulmonary Hypertension patient advocate. She was smart, funny and never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her, and especially her loving family.

She is survived by her husband, Dick; son, Mark (Sue) Neil; daughter, Karen (Ron) Dawson; grandchildren Erin Neil and Alexander Neil. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tom Randklev.
