I have attended several meetings on the property tax issue and have reviewed in detail the related program and fiscal information prepared by the town’s staff. My interest arises from being a relative newcomer to our wonderful community and from my prior career that included work as director of public works in Milwaukee County, and as assistant state budget director for the State of Wisconsin.
I will be voting yes on the referendum. The town’s professional staff have made a convincing and straightforward case that there is a substantial gap between projected revenue under current law and the community’s public safety and infrastructure needs. The additional revenue from a primary property tax will support basic, core services.
A “yes” vote is a sound investment.
