Speakers observe Purple Heart Day on Aug. 7

John F. Scott II, deputy director for the Arizona Department of Veterans Services and a Marine Corps veteran, will speak at the local observance of Purple Heart Day on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
The ceremony will honor combat-wounded veterans who received the Purple Heart. The Fountain Hills Memorial Committee, led by the Marine Corps League Detachment 1439, is planning the program.
Invited are town residents and members of the business community, veterans, sheriff’s officers and firefighters, school officials, and town, state and federal office holders.
The program will begin at 10 a.m. in the Community Center ballroom. Guests are asked to arrive by 9:30 a.m. to be seated.
Joining Scott as a speaker will be Charles G. Byers, Jr., a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a U.S. Army combat medic veteran.
Participating in the ceremonial rituals will be Bob Frost, chaplain of the Marine Corps League Detachment 1439; Debbie Fisher, vocalist; Tyson Henry, former East Valley Young Marine and a member of the incoming class at Annapolis this year, and the American Legion Post 58 State and National Color Guard champions.
