Fountain Hills Theater is bringing a group of couples to perform Love Letters, by A. R. Gurney.
Gurney says of the piece that it needs “no theater, no lengthy rehearsal, no special set, no memorization of the lines and no commitment for its (two) actors beyond the night of the performance.”
The local theater has arranged to have seven celebrity couples (and one to be announced) to perform in the roles of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner.

The local theater has arranged to have seven celebrity couples (and one to be announced) to perform in the roles of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner.
Appearing in the first performance are Brenda and Kurt Warner on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 8 p.m. Brenda Warner is a New York Times-best-selling author, and husband Kurt currently is a TV football analyst and former Arizona Cardinal quarterback.
The last performance, Sunday Jan. 15, features Fountain Hills Mayor Linda Kavanagh and her husband, State Sen. John Kavanagh. Their performance starts at 2 p.m.
Others scheduled to perform are Judith Lawrence, a former USO entertainer and her husband, Arizona Rep. and radio/television personality, Jay Lawrence. They perform Friday, Jan. 6, at 9 p.m.
Duffy and Pat McMahon will appear Saturday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. Duffy McMahon is a contributor to the Arizona Republic opinion page and regular guest on radio and TV. Her husband, Pat McMahon, is the multi-faceted actor, producer, recording artist, writer, broadcaster and one-third of the legendary comedy team of “The Wallace and Ladmo Show.”
Mary Jane McCloskey, singer and actress with a diverse background from jazz to opera, with her husband Cory McCloskey, who has handled weather duties on FOX 10 Arizona Morning and Fox 10 News at Noon since 2001, will offer their rendition of Andrew and Melissa Sunday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m.
The next weekend, Erika and Steven Hunter perform Thursday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. Steven is a Phoenix Suns’ ambassador to Arizona and former Suns star.
Performers for the Friday, Jan. 13, show will be announced.
Noel Irick, choreographer for Fountain Hills Theater, and her husband, Artistic Director Peter J. Hill, will be on stage Saturday, Jan. 14, at 8 p.m.
Through sharing 50 years of joy and disappointment, large and small, the couple in the play forges an intimacy that transcends distance and time. As circumstances pull them apart, their letters – often hilarious and always eloquent – always bring them back together.
As the play unfolds, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling story.
Love Letters is produced by Patricia Tonzi and directed by Artistic Director Peter J. Hill. Individual tickets are $25 for adults and $18 for children 17 and younger.
All performances will be on the theater’s Mainstage Too, 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office at 480-837-9661, ext. 3, or at fhtaz.org.
