Special use permit granted for apartments in Fountain Hills

Conversion of former office building

The Fountain Hills Town Council has given the green light to a 12-unit apartment building on Panorama Drive just north of Saguaro Boulevard.

The council approved a special use permit to allow a developer to convert the former Christensen Computer office building into apartments. The property is within a C-3 zoning district, and the town’s Zoning Ordinance requires a special use permit for residential use in commercial districts.

Although the structure is in good condition and well-maintained, there was some concern that the location is inappropriate for residential use. C-3 allows for the most intense commercial use, just short of industrial development.
