I had the pleasant experience recently of visiting with Fountain Hills’ new councilman David Spelich. Ninety days into his term the energy and enthusiasm just emanates from David as he tirelessly pursues all that is good for our Town.
To say he is direct would not do justice to him. He has honesty and integrity – character traits that made him a fantastic, long-tenured Chicago police detective. Those law enforcement principles are just part of his DNA and I’m sure he is shaking up the status quo on the council.
But when David steps on toes, he is doing so on our behalf. He promised to be a watchdog, to ask tough questions and to always do what he said he would do during the campaign. For example, when developers want his ear, they do it under his terms, in Town Hall, in the conference room and not at a private dinner.

David came in second in a crowded field of six candidates. We who voted for him liked what we heard and now we like what we see. I wish we could find more David Spelichs to lead Fountain Hills as we struggle to make smart decisions, change what is broken and set the town on a solid financial footing.
