The Town Council has approved a Salt River Project proposal to bury a portion of its 12,000 kilovolt transmission line along El Pueblo Boulevard between Grande Boulevard and Calico Drive.
Town Engineer Randy Harrel said the project will extend a buried line through Ashbrook Wash.
Council members asked about the impact on residences in the area. Harrel said the work has not been designed so the exact location is not yet determined.
Councilman Henry Leger said it is important that the town have a strategy for outreach once the routing has been finalized to let residents know how they might be affected.
Town Manager Grady Miller said the town will work with SRP and local media to notify residents.
The work will be part of the SRP Aesthetic Fund project in Fountain Hills this year. The town will be responsible for about $43,000, but will be reimbursed the next time SRP authorizes additional funds.
