Ok, I understand that, given the current financial situation, the town needed to hire a third-party concern to conduct inspections on the Park Place project, but what I don’t understand is how they would allow that third party to issue required permits, with or without receipt of fees.
Why was the project allowed to proceed when there was no payment of those fees? Did no one at Town Hall notice that over $417,000 in much-needed revenue was outstanding? Why was the project not shut down when the June deadline was ignored?
The concern over large legal fees for the Town seems poor to me since if N-Shea were to default the legal fees likely would be significantly more the longer we wait!

I believe it is not unreasonable to be seriously concerned about the financial worthiness of the N-Shea Group and, if that is not the case, why have they not paid the fees? If they cannot pay, who will complete the project? What if no responsible entity can or will step in to pay the fees and complete the project? Will we have a half-finished monster on our namesake main street? This was the case in another Valley community in recent times. Just how many visitors will that attract to the community?
It is my opinion that the overall competence of Town government is called into question by this type of occurrence. Particularly when several council members and the Town Manager seem to be most interested in attracting more visitors by championing an ill-conceived swimming lagoon in Fountain Park.
I am not advocating any house cleaning, just a strongly-worded request for the Mayor and Council to do the job of good stewardship we elected them to do instead of creating new problems for the Town.
