Still potential for heavy rains

Some light rain had fallen in Fountain Hills by Monday afternoon, but the major threat of flash flooding has somewhat dissipated.

The National Weather Service shortened the flash-flood watch that covered most of southwestern and south-central Arizona, limiting the watch to 9 p.m. Monday instead of extending into Tuesday.

The tropical moisture heading into the state is moving further east than anticipated earlier. Despite that, however, weather forecasters are saying there is still much potential for heavy rain, up to two inches, in the Valley Monday and into Tuesday morning.
