The Fountain Hills Mentor Program, now in its 20th year, has helped over 1,700 students. Under the umbrella of the Golden Eagle Education Foundation, this school- and community-based program offers students the opportunity to reach their maximum potential by providing trusting relationships between young people and individuals who offer support, encouragement and direction.
This year, 80 mentors are making a difference. The mentors go into the schools each week and mentor one-on-one with the same student for one hour.

According to GEEF’s Jeannie Ryan, Mentoring is rewarding to all those involved and has the power to affect change. She provided several comments from mentors, parents, and teachers, which were provided on the annual evaluations conducted each year. Examples include the following:
“You receive far more than you give.”
“A deep satisfaction knowing I made a difference in a child’s life.”
“We cannot thank you enough for what you have done for our son…You have given him confidence when he needed it most and been such a good friend to him.”
“The individualized attention has been great. He has really enjoyed learning more about topics that interest him!”
“I have children that can’t wait to go with their mentors. They each grew academically and a few in communications. I appreciate all my mentors.”
“All three of my students gained confidence during their time with a mentor. Sometimes the growth isn’t just academic.”
Ryan explained that it is not too late to volunteer to be a mentor this year. A two-hour training session and background check will get the ball rolling.
