Stitchers of Hope, a local charity that creates clothing for children around the world, has set a goal of $3,500 by December to fund its 2019 mission needs.
Stitchers of Hope sew t-dresses for girls and short for boys. The labels are sewn on the outside, fully visible to anyone who looks at the clothing. It indicates that the children are cared for, which protects them from sex trafficking, a prevalent trend in the countries where the clothing is distributed.
The group also makes washable, reusable menstrual hygiene kits.

In sub-Saharan Africa alone, nearly 17 million girls are not schooled, many of them ending their formal education after reaching puberty because of their menstrual cycle.
Stitchers of Hope believe an educated girl can have a profound, positive effect on her community.
The volunteer group meets every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 16150 E. El Lago Blvd. They will take the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas off.
No experience is needed. Cotton or flannel fabric, and/or yarn donations are accepted. Portable sewing machines are welcome at the work sessions.
Monetary donations also are welcome. To donate, visit returnhope.com or write a check to Return Hope International with the footnote “Stitchers of Hope” and leave it at Christ’s Church of Fountain Hills.
