Storm puts 1,000 FH homes in dark

The storms that passed through the Valley late Sunday afternoon killed the power to more than 1,000 Salt River Project customers in Fountain Hills.

According to SRP spokesman Jeff Lane the power was out from about 6:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and affected an area north of Shea along Saguaro Boulevard.

Lane said a lightning strike to equipment in the southeast corner of town to the rear of the Wendy’s restaurant was the cause of the outage.

While the storm was powerful with lightning and thunder it was relatively light on rain. Maricopa County Flood Control District monitoring sites in Fountain Hills collected generally about .20-inch of rain. The SunRidge Canyon Dam station received the greatest amount with .28-inch.

The National Weather Service is increasing its chance of rain to about 50 percent in Fountain Hills for tomorrow with the chance continuing at about 40 percent into Wednesday.
