Stubborn facts

Recent letters have been titled “Alarming,” “Discouraged,” “Fantasy,” “Development,” “Stewardship” (careful, responsible, management of that entrusted to one’s care). All addressed the sad state of town government, questioning overall competence, failure to identify reliable sources of revenue to pay the bills, total lack of transparency, continuing failure to listen to constituents, intimidation and bullying.

“Alarming” was Ginny Dickey’s response to John Kavanagh’s formal request to provide private e-mails/texts; to which she objected as a private citizen. A subsequent letter (“Public record”) criticized her objection: “e-mails from/to town officials might have to be turned in by, not her, but the officials.” Fact: Ginny was instructed to turn them over herself. The law does not apply to private citizens.

“She never objected to taxpayer dollars to her sister’s theater.” Fact: She had to recuse herself from voting on theater funding due to conflict of interest laws.

“She never objected to taxpayer dollars to her sister’s theater.” Fact: She had to recuse herself from voting on theater funding due to conflict of interest laws.

“She suggested the mayor/some council members are giving special treatment to the Chamber of Commerce, while she did the same.” Fact: Refers to the new 30K/year proposal for the Chamber. The Chamber actually ran the town’s tourism department when she was on council, with a contract. The new proposal had no written contract, with vague benefit to the town when we can’t pay our bills. Facts are stubborn things.

Bottom line, it appears the request by Kavanagh was in retaliation for a previous request (by others) for mayor/council correspondence that revealed the unpaid $453,000 Park Place fees. The town abdicated its authority and responsibility to issue a building permit for a $10 million-plus project. Is the development agreement a secret document? “Something isn’t adding up here.”

Make Fountain Hills great again! Get out the broom.
