I’m a veteran and lifelong resident of greater Phoenix. I have watched it, and specifically the West Valley, grow and change.
In 1970, 51st Avenue and Bell Road was the edge of civilization. Many years later, we have a lot more folks living and working here.
The Phoenix business community has grown and attracted new businesses. I recall when Interstate 10 was finally finished through here, but folks didn’t want the freeways. I remember when Palo Verde Generating Plant was going to be built in Tonopah and folks didn’t want a nuclear plant nearby.
These things have been good for our area. Now, BNSF has decided to build a new railyard near Wittmann.
There are two existing railyards along Grand Avenue and the tracks now in Glendale and El Mirage. I believe that having an additional railyard will be good for the businesses that have moved to the West Valley, and should be rail-served.
It will be good for our economy, the local tax base and will be good for folks needing jobs. I support the new railyard and BNSF.
