SunRidge Canyon in Fountain Hills begins Firewise effort

National program to prevent wildfire

The SunRidge Canyon community in Fountain Hills is taking steps to become part of the Firewise USA program, an effort by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to involve communities and residents in wildfire prevention.

The Firewise USA recognition program is administered by NFPA with the intention of serving as a resource for city, county, state, federal agencies, tribes, organizations, fire departments and communities. The effort works toward a common goal to reduce loss of life, property, and resources to wildland fire.

Jacob Eberspacher, a forestry technician with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire helps administer Firewise in the state. He attended an informational meeting and said Firewise is one of the best ways residents can be involved in protecting their homes and neighborhoods from wildfire.
