Members of the Sunset Kiwanis Club along with FHHS Key Club joined forces March 28 to work at Extended Hands Food Bank and Max’s Closet.

They assembled food boxes at Extended Hands and helped reorganized Max’s Closet adjacent to the food bank.

The joint service project included the help of 14 members of Sunset Kiwanis and five eager, energetic Key Clubbers along with their respective leaders, Margaret Ziefert (president of Sunset Kiwanis) and Kate Pruett, Key Club advisor.

Kiwanians split their time between both locations -- sorting and separating clothing, shoes and handbags along with the mountain of hangers donated to help with the project.

The objective was to consolidate and display not only clothing but other items arranged in a more orderly fashion to give Max’s Closet customers a better shopping experience.

Lisa Hadsall, of Max’s Closet helped to give direction with this process and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly everything was accomplished (approximately three hours).

She has lined up a carpenter to build shelving for display handbags and accessories such as shoes.

On the food bank side, Kiwanians filled a pallet with 30 food boxes loaded with a variety of nutritional food for area needy families.

Those who participated in both projects were Sunset Kiwanians Stan and Margaret Ziefert, Ron and Rena Bahrmasel Don Vohs, Tom Aiello, Don Cunningham, Julie Orwin, Hank Cipolaro, Dori Wittrig, Bob Travis, Dr. Bill Myhr and Kate Pruett.

Participating Key Club members were Ashley Knox, Laura Anderson, Tessa Halverson, Madelyn McKellips and Chris Truong.
