'Super' Pancake Breakfast Sunday

Posted

The annual “Super” Pancake Breakfast on the morning of the big game is ready to kick off bright and early Sunday, Feb. 5.

It will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Kiwanis Activity Center, 16957 E. Kiwanis Drive.

Proceeds from the breakfast, organized by the Noon Kiwanis Club, will go toward a specific Kiwanis fundraiser.

The typical “Big K” breakfast consists of pancakes, sausage, applesauce and scrambled eggs – cost is $6.

Reduced price kids’ meals will be available along with a la carte items and refreshments such as coffee, milk and orange juice.

All proceeds will benefit the Eliminate Project, part of Kiwanis International’s efforts to eliminate maternal neonatal tetanus from more than 30 countries.

Kiwanis is working with UNICEF to distribute a series of immunizations to mothers, primarily in third world countries, who are susceptible to contracting tetanus.

Maternal neonatal tetanus, when passed on to newborns, often proves fatal. It is an especially painful disease and causes much suffering for babies.

“This has become an annual event for our club, and it’s always been well attended by the community at-large,” said club President Ken Brown. “We have received many positive comments from people who attend.

“We’ll have tables and chairs set up inside the Kiwanis clubhouse, so the weather or chilly temperatures won’t be a factor.

“Come on out and support a good cause and get a great breakfast at the same time.”

Knowing many people of faith attend worship services Sunday morning, the breakfast has been scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon.

“For those who enjoy an early breakfast before church, we’ll be open,” Brown said. “And we’ll be serving up until noon for those folks who enjoy going out for breakfast after church on Sunday.

“That leaves plenty of time to get ready for the big game later that day, since kickoff isn’t until 4:30 or so.”
