Supply and demand

How can anyone support building an aquatic center in Fountain Hills!? A basic lesson in economics is required here.

We live in the desert. The state is experiencing a drought and a decreasing supply of clean water. Due to climate change, this decreasing supply of clean water is only expected to get worse.

This is where the simple law of supply and demand comes into the discussion. Our water bills have already increased by 18 percent. The increased demand for water in Fountain Hills, if this large aquatic center is built, would cause water bills to skyrocket as with the EPCOR’s 42 percent rate increase for the City of Surprise, Arizona.

EPCOR ask for an 84% increase in water rates for portions of Sun City and Surprise! Can you live in the desert without clean water? Residents would move to other cities and our property values would decrease further.

I believe Tolis and Loisi should spend some time exploring Fountain Hills. Some simple marketing knowledge would enlighten their business success.

Most of the residents of our town already have access to a swimming pool, either in their own yards or at their condominium complex. But wait, if we do want to do physical water activities in a community swimming pool and experience “amazing things for our joints, body and mind,” we can always join Peaks Athletic Club and support our local business!
