Take a hike! Enjoy art! Or both.

Fall weather in the Sonoran Desert has finally arrived – the moderate temperatures that bring many of us to Fountain Hills in the first place.

There are plenty of opportunities this weekend to enjoy the great outdoors. The first major event to be considered is undoubtedly the Fountain Festival of Arts and Crafts. This annual Chamber-organized festival will be staged over three days (Friday through Sunday) on Avenue of the Fountains and the downtown portion of Saguaro Blvd.

Naturally many out-of-town folks drive to the Hills to enjoy the festival, but many locals also take advantage of early Christmas shopping, perhaps check out the food or maybe just enjoy the musical entertainment. There is something for everyone.

Maricopa County on Sunday is celebrating “Take A Hike Day.” Maricopa County parks are waiving the day-use fees on Sunday. Fountain Hills hikers can go to McDowell Mountain Regional Park and enjoy this jewel of a desert park. The park stages a variety of events throughout the week for outdoor lovers.

The McDowell Preserve is still open – at least from its northern entrance – providing gorgeous views of Fountain Hills and the Verde Valley. The Sonoran Conservancy of Fountain Hills on Wednesday, Nov. 18, will organize a hike in the Cave Creek area.

Now is the time to get out and enjoy our beautiful desert surroundings. Tell someone to take a hike!
