On March 21 Fountain Hills faced Rancho Solano Prep and was less successful. The boys team lost 9-0 and the girls team tied 3-3.
The tennis squad has two home matches this week. The first was yesterday, March 26, against Veritas Prep.
The second match is tomorrow, Thursday, March 28, against Valley Lutheran at Golden Eagle Park starting at 3:30 p.m.
Coronado
On the boys’ side of the court, Kyle Richardson played in the ones spot and lost his match 6-0, 6-0. Casey Timms, playing in the twos spot, won 6-2, 6-0 and Andrei Urda won from the three spot, 6-1, 6-2.
Only the doubles team of Timms and Urda got to play and they won their match 8-2.
The girls team battled just as hard but narrowly missed the win.
“Senior Rory Wilson played a tough two-hour match to go down 1-6, 7-6, 4-10 at the number one spot,” Head coach Ted Trippett said.
Courtney Flynn won in the twos spot 6-0,6-0 and Elise Quan won her threes showdown at 6-3,6-3.
Wilson and Flynn won their doubles match 8-2 and Quan and Penny Enterline won 8-1.
Rancho Solano
Trippett described Rancho Solano Prep as a larger and more experienced squad, so both Falcon teams had an uphill battle ahead of them during their final match last week.
Richardson lost at the one spot at 6-0, 6-1, and Timms lost to his opponent in the twos position by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Andrei Urda lost 6-0, 6-0 and Blake Anderson lost in the fours position 6-2, 6-2.
“Our number two doubles team of Kyle Richardson and Blake Anderson was in good position to score a point, but Jack Schwyn and Wyatt Hammond of Rancho Solano Prep were able to overcome a 2-5 deficit in the set to win it, 8-5,” Trippett said. “The team continues to learn and improve upon things as they play better teams.”
The doubles team of Timms and Urda also lost their match, 8-1.
On the girls side of the court, Wilson won her first match in the ones spot 7-5, 6-2. Flynn secured her second win in a row 6-0, 6-3 finish and Enterline lost her match 7-6, 6-0.
Flynn and Wilson also won their doubles match 8-2.
