The high school tennis squad had two matches last week with both the boys and girls squads earning victories in the pair of competitions.

Play continued this past Tuesday, April 4, with the Falcons welcoming the team from Page. They’ll be back on the home court tomorrow, April 6, to square off against Veritas Prep beginning at 2 p.m.

The last week of regular play for the tennis season begins next week with a match against Scottsdale Prep scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday, April 10.

While overall results from last week’s matches were available, individual scores were not available as of press time. Head coach Elliot Manton is reporting that the girls won their showdown versus Scottsdale Christian 7-2 while the boys earned a close victory at 5-4.

Two days later, the boys handily bested Valley Lutheran 6-3 while the local ladies earned a victory of 8-1.

According to Manton, several Falcons are showing some real strength at this point in the season.

“Courtney Dunham won both singles matches at both matches and is looking to be in great form as we head into the last stretch of the season,” Manton said. “The return of Meagan Coveney for our match against Valley Lutheran was a big confidence boost for the whole team.

“Emily Johnson is also coming through with two big wins this week and has been moved up a spot into the third position for the team.”

Over to the boys, Manton said that David Strayer has not yet earned a win but is working hard and training in order to become a better player each week on the court.

“Kyle Richardson is becoming a rock for us in the doubles and is really lifting the team spirit,” Manton added. “Trever Sandvig and Blake Anderson are also coming along by leaps and bounds this season.”
