Many residents may recall our family business, Sorelli’s From the Vine, located where Vito’s Bakery used to be. One day, we noticed a man looking into the window. We recognized the man as Sheriff Joe. He had a puzzled look on his face. I opened the door and asked if I could be of help. “I am looking for the bakery,” he said. Sadly, I informed him that the bakery had closed and we were the new tenants.
Politely he asked about our business, when we would be open and wished us well with our novel business concept. Still smiling, he asked where in town he could buy some good homemade Italian cookies. Such a short, simple interaction, but what an impact. We just met the toughest Sheriff! Wow! Little did I know that years later I would be working for MCSO.
As Sheriff, he implemented many programs providing sanctuary for helpless victims both human and animal. Every inmate that entered his jail was always treated with dignity and respect. I know because I saw it each and every day for nearly six years. His compassion is unparalleled.

I respect this humble, dignified man. He makes me feel safe, secure and proud. He solidified a greater sense of honor within me for the men and women who protect us because he “gets it.”
The survival of our nation rests on the rule of law, the Constitution and the responsibility that goes with it. His love of country, family and humanity is deeper than any one of us will ever truly understand. He is one of kind and will go down in history as the “greatest Sheriff;” and I am humbled for the privilege of having worked for him.
Thank you, Sheriff, and God bless you and your entire family.
