With reference to the opinion “Democrats need to wake up,” as a lifelong middle-of-the-road Democrat, I am a little confused.
For the last four-plus years, we’ve been told by the MAGA-led far right that we are woke. Verifying my knowledge of the English language with a Google search this morning, “woke” is the simple past tense of “wake.” How much more awake can we be?
During the period 2016-2020, when the first Trump carnival came to town, we were awake to his embrace of dictators like Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin, his two impeachments (he holds the record for most impeachments), his failed attempt at re-election, and the list goes on. Then in 2021, he condones the storming of the capital by various right-wing groups and election deniers.
