The first law

The town says it was “dragged” into the case and “did nothing wrong.” But it was the town’s threatening letter to me that caused me to have to go to court to protect my First Amendment rights.

Maybe the town means that it was just enforcing the letter of the law, and maybe they are right. But that just demonstrates why the law had to be thrown out. If the law requires me to register with the government and report my activities to them just for making some signs and holding a rally with neighbors and friends, then the law is obviously unconstitutional.

Regardless, the town had a duty to obey the Constitution. When they chose to send me their threatening letter, they failed to do so. Let’s hope that in the future they remember that the Constitution is the first law they have to abide by.
