Fountain Hills: The Fountains supports A New Leaf Men’s Center

Church volunteers provide food, conversation and compassion for Mesa shelter residents

It has been five years since The Fountains, a United Methodist Church, began collaborating with A New Leaf Men’s Center in Mesa to provide monthly meals for men experiencing homelessness.

DeDe Rudolphy, the church’s director of community outreach, says the program holds special meaning for volunteers, who value the opportunity to support those in need while learning the stories behind the faces they serve.

The shelter can house up to 110 men when full, and eight times a year, a group of seven to 10 volunteers from The Fountains prepares and serves a full meal that typically includes Sloppy Joe’s, potato salad, green beans, watermelon and homemade cookies.
