'The Giver' coming to youth theater
Posted
Fountain Hills Youth Theater announces the opening of its YABOY show of the 2014-15 season, “The Giver.”
“The Giver” is an original dramatic adaptation of the Newberry Award-winning children’s novel by Lois Lowry written by Eric Coble.
“The Giver” marks the theater’s 12th annual YABOY (Young Actors Benefiting Other Youth) production.
Each year the organization partners with a local non-profit that offers services reflecting the theme of the production.
This year, FHYT is partnering with the Fountain Hills River of Time Museum.
This production will focus on the important role that history plays in shaping the future of a society and its humanity.
In this play, the world is perfect. Districts of “Sameness” have evolved where everything -- life, death, career, and even the weather -- is controlled and set. All the memories of the community are taken from the people and given to one man to hold, so that feelings of past experiences won’t impose themselves on the existence of day to day.
Ultimately, choice is eliminated because when people are asked to choose, “they will always choose wrong.”
“The Giver” is directed by Ross Collins, produced by Anne Kelleher, costumes by Carrie Grief and features Zachary Acridge, Emily Campbell, Spencer Cihak, Carlee Coulehan, Hunter DiGrazia, Elle Feinstein, Ana Hoffend, Sebastian Harris-Wylde, Connor Klein, Makayla Lopez, Keegan Luther, Kendall Luther, Katie Male, Molly Stellino, Savoy Thompson and Madelyn Varela.
“The Giver” will play Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. (with possible matinees on Saturdays) from Nov. 14-23.
Ticket prices are $15 for adult and $12 for youth 12 and under, plus $3 handling per person. Group and student rush prices available.
“The Giver” will play at Fountain Hills Theater, 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd. Tickets at 837-1591 or visit www.fhtaz.org.
