The TLC

As Coordinator of the Technology Learning Center (TLC), I’d like to recognize some important Fountain Hills residents. There are two components that make TLC successful: Our loyal, repeating students and our dedicated volunteers.

First, I’d like to thank all of our students who attend the workshops. TLC prides itself on offering a welcoming classroom atmosphere and caring volunteers to make the learning experience fun and stress-free.

Second, I’d like to express my gratitude to the TLC volunteers. They work tirelessly to keep the students up-to-date with their electronic devices in our always changing tech world. A recurring comment from the TLC instructors is that they always learn something themselves while teaching or coaching.

To keep this non-profit organization operating in the future, we need to grow our student base and also to recruit new volunteers. The current students have been instrumental in providing word-of-mouth referrals and the TLC article that appears in the Times gives us visibility in the community.

Recruitment of volunteers is necessary because we lose volunteers to health issues, relocation or other circumstances that make it impossible for them to continue their volunteer commitment.

So, I am putting out a request. Those of you who have thought about volunteering should come in and spend some time observing how TLC operates.

Although TLC will basically be closed during the summer months, we will be open for our popular Wednesday morning “Time-4-U.” In addition to “Time-4-U” from 9-11 a.m. TLC is adding an additional hour (from 11-noon) called “Tech Tips & Tricks.” This would be a good time for prospective volunteers to observe a class.

No formal computer background is required, just a willingness to help others. We will match your expertise to the job. TLC is seeking volunteers. Your time will be greatly appreciated.
