The town council is focused on politics, not what’s best for the town

This new town council has started out the same way as the previous new council, by rehashing old issues that had already been researched, discussed (ad nauseam) and approved. Now they are rehashing the same issues again!

This means that, in the meantime, very little else has been accomplished. This shows a complete disrespect for former councils and town staff members, in addition to the waste of time and taxpayers’ money.

There is an obvious hostility among the council, including the mayor. This is a non-partisan board and they swore an oath to work together for the good of the entire town. It’s clear that the majority feel that they are only beholden to representing their political friends.

In addition to making no improvements or progress, they actually turned down free grant money that the staff spent time earning for us. This, because they don’t like the words, “inclusion, equity and diversity” and one member actually equated these words with Communism! They clearly brought their own agendas to the job and it all appears to me to be coordinated behind the scenes.

Now that this group has a majority vote on council they are abusing that advantage and intend to free Allen Skillicorn from the sanctions that he earned over a political sign dispute. Now “they” want to roll back one of the improvements the town has enjoyed in recent years, limiting the proliferation of political signs. One thing that most people in this town agree on is being free from the sign pollution that so many other municipalities suffer from.

If these council people would stop the focus on their political agendas and ask residents (not just their friends) their opinions, then we would have a better functioning council. The mayor should look for a good team-building activity.
