Theater donation

Everybody knows the old saying, “put your money where your mouth is.” Well, Fred and Barb Hansen have done exactly that in a big, big way.

When they informed The Times that they would be making a special presentation at the recent Broadway in the Hills fundraiser for the Fountain Hills Theater, Fred made one thing very clear. He explained that he and his wife were making a donation because they believe in the work that the theater does and that they feel more folks should support the causes, clubs, groups and organizations they believe in.

The Hansen’s also made it clear that they weren’t looking for any sort of recognition for their contribution to the local theater but, when you’re handing over $30,000 with no strings attached, we can’t help but be a bit shell-shocked.

To be clear, the Hansens don’t have an organization they’re working through to provide those funds. They didn’t hold a fundraiser or anything like that. They saved up their own money and, finding a local cause they’re passionate about, they decided to give back to the community.

We consider this just one more example of why Fountain Hills is such a fantastic place to live, work, grow up and become a part of the community. This town is truly run on the power of volunteers, charity and residents driven by the desire to simply help out when they can.

We commend the Hansens on their generous contribution to a cause they clearly feel very strongly about and hope more people than ever will go on to follow their example. We’re not saying everyone needs to start cutting major checks, but giving what you can, when you can – be it money, time, food, etc. – is a good way to make a big difference in the lives of others.
