Theater purchase on Jan. 19 Council agenda

The Town Council will consider selling its property used by the Fountain Hills Theater to that local theater group when it meets on Thursday this week.

Last year the council made the decision to sell the building and advertised for bidders. There was a bid stipulation that the property must continue to be used for theater purposes.

The bid deadline was September and, according to Town Manager Grady Miller’s staff report, the local group was the only bidder.

The purchase price was $0, however, the town recognized the theater group’s ongoing efforts to improve and maintain the facility and it documented more than $577,000 of in-kind capital improvements.

The documented in-kind investment exceeded the appraised value of the property.

Also on Thursday, the council will consider ratification of Miller’s emergency procurement related to repairs to the aeration system in Fountain Lake. Approval would authorize Miller to execute the contracts not to exceed $203,000.

This week the council will begin its regular review of activity at the Arizona State Legislature based on the League of Arizona Cities and Town weekly Legislative Bulletin.

The council may choose to ask staff to act to express its support for or disapproval of various bills.

Mayor Linda Kavanagh will read a proclamation recognizing the contributions and support of retiring Christ’s Church Pastor Don Lawrence.

Lawrence is the founder of Christ’s Church in Fountain Hills and has been a long-time resident and served as a town council member.

The council meets Thursday, Jan. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
