Theater season in Valley officially opens in September

Joining the busy-ness September brings is Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts with a wide variety of activities.
Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell help wrap up the month’s events with a show Thursday, Sept. 26. Harris, a 12-time Grammy Award winner, Billboard Century Award recipient and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, has recorded more than 25 albums and lent her talents to countless fellow artists’ recordings. Crowell, a multi-Grammy winner whose songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Norah Jones, Etta James and the Grateful Dead among others, joins his longtime friend to perform songs from their acclaimed collaborative album, “Old Yellow Moon.”

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $49 to $79.
Brazilian Day Arizona is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, and $15 at the event. Tickets for children 10 and younger are $7.
Brazilian Day Arizona is a celebration of Brazil’s Independence Day through music, dance, martial arts, cuisine and more. The family-friendly event showcases a variety of live performances and educational programs.
The ASU Concerts at the Center resume in September. The first program is set for Monday, Sept. 9, with “Russian Masterpieces for Viola.” The next concert in the series is Monday, Sept. 16, and features “The Creviston and Fader Duo.” The Monday, Sept. 30, program features “Mozart in Spain.
Each of the ASU Concerts at the Center starts with a 6:30 pre-concert talk, followed by the program at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, and free for all students and veterans.
