No one should complain that there’s nothing to do this weekend in town.

Depending upon your interests, three major events will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 11-13.

And what’s more, they cost nothing or a slight admission charge to attend.

Arts Festival

The Thunderbird Arts & Fine Wine Festival opens for a three-day run, Friday through Sunday, March 11-13.

Featured artist Manfred Rapp will join about 125 artists for the 12th annual show that integrates fine art, crafts, imported and domestic wines, food and live music on the Avenue of the Fountains, between La Montana Drive and Saguaro Boulevard.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily. Admission is $3; Fountain Hills residents can attend for free.

An engraved souvenir wine glass and six tasting tickets cost $10.

Participating wineries are Desert Diamond Distillery, PRP Wine, Schlossadler International, Sogno Toscano, Su Vino and others.

Providing musical entertainment will be Bob Culbertson on the Chapman Stick and Pam Barker and Bruce Rudolph of Rockin’ Memories.

Vendors will sell food.

Kite Festival

Kites will crowd the skies over Fountain Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, March 12.

Pakistan Information and Cultural Organization (PICO) is the sponsor of the 14th annual Kite Flying Festival (Basant Mela).

Admission to the public is free.

Basant is a seasonal festival celebrated at the end of winter to welcome spring. Kite flying is the major and most colorful part this festival. The sky is covered with kites as hundreds of people converge on Fountain Park to take part in the event.

Special arrangements have been made this year to get customized kites for the event from Pakistan.

Vendors sell merchandise and traditional Pakistani food.

St. Patrick’s

Fountain Events, Inc. has designed a day of family festivities to celebrate St. Patrick.

St. Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leafed plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, according to the story first written in 1726.

The party will start at 11 a.m. and continue to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 13, in Fountain Park.

The Fountain will turn green at 1 p.m. If you miss it, the Fountain will change green again at noon on Thursday, March 17, the actual St. Patrick’s Day.

Events president Christine Colley said adult and children’s activities will be provided.

Entrance admission is $5 per adult; children 12 and under are free. Proceeds will benefit programs that support veterans, Extended Hands food bank and high school programs.

Irish food and beverages will be sold. Local vendors also will share their products and services, such as free massages.

The entertainment schedule is:

Noon: Bagpipes Amazing Grace, Eric Landau.

Noon to 2 p.m.: Steven Hunter, former Phoenix Suns player, autograph session and basketball hoop shooting.

12:30 p.m.: Kelly’s Dance Academy.

1:15 p.m.: Traveler Celtic Rock Band, Scott Jeffers.

2:15 p.m.: McTeggart Irish Dancers.

3 p.m.: Traveler Celtic Rock Band, Scott Jeffers.

3:50 p.m.: McTeggart Irish Dancers.
