Staff in the town Community Services Department is poised to take over the program to promote tourism in Fountain for the next six months.

On Thursday evening, the Town Council will hear from staff on how the program will be picked up and implemented.

The Chamber of Commerce Tourism Bureau was dissolved earlier this year and money the town allocated to the bureau became available for the town to operate the program.

Staff has outlined a program that will continue through the six months remaining in the current fiscal year. There is approximately $64,000 available to fund the program.

Staff is planning to use an intern from Arizona State University who was contracted with the Tourism Bureau to help staff the effort.

Other issues

Staff will make a presentation regarding land use and infrastructure improvements as they relate to changes in state law concerning development fees.

The State Legislature amended statutes in 2011 concerning how municipalities calculate development fees. The town has retained the services of a consultant to update the town’s impact fee plan to comply with changes to the law.

The council will also discuss the scheduling of the Saguaro Boulevard reconstruction project (see separate story).

The consent agenda for the council includes two liquor license requests, one a new license and the second for a special event.

Consideration of a revised Emergency Operations Plan for the town is also on the consent agenda.

The Town Council meets Thursday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
