When the Town Council meets this week it will be considering an application for a special use permit to install a faux palm cell tower on Colony Drive.
The applicant is asking to install the 72-foot tall faux tree on the property of Fountain Hills Mini Storage.
The Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend the council approve the permit. It is located in a C-3 zoning district and is similar to other stealth cellular towers in town.

The council is also considering a special event application for a “Slide the City” event planned for April 25 in Fountain Hills.
Slide the City sets up a giant water slide on the street, in this case Palisades Boulevard between El Lago and Golden Eagle boulevards.
The slide is self-contained using chlorinated, recirculated water. The 1,000-foot “Slip-N-Slide will have a pool at the bottom to slow and stop participants.
The event will require the closure of Palisades for 24 hours from midnight to midnight.
Shelley Mowrey, Fountain Hills Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition director, will make a presentation to the council outlining the accomplishments and successes for the coalition over the past year.
The town Community Services Department will be recognized by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association with an award for the Outstanding Cultural Awareness Program for the Chinese Lantern and Folk Festival in 2014. That event has relocated to Peoria for this year.
There will also be a presentation on the tourism program after one year under the jurisdiction of the town.
The council will also consider the appointment of citizens to serve on the McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission, the Board of Adjustment and the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The council meets on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
