Town begins anniversary planning

The Town of Fountain Hills is preparing for a major dual anniversary for 2020, marking the 50th year since the start of development (1970) and 30th years since incorporation as a town (1989), and Mayor Ginny Dickey is asking anyone interested in helping out with planning and executing celebration events to sign on.

Potential volunteers may contact Nancy Walter at Town Hall nwalter@fh.az.gov and let her know of their interest.

Dickey said the idea is to put together a group similar to the one that developed the Centennial Circle at the Civic Center for the 100th anniversary for the State of Arizona.

“I don’t have pre-conceived notions of the name of the group or whether we will also celebrate 30 years of incorporation since there is almost an overlap,” Dickey said. “Hopefully we will get a good mix of ages and experiences, historical perspective plus new viewpoints.

“A local resident, Mary Ann Michaels of MCO Realty, suggested planning this big celebration and it is a very exciting idea,” Dickey added. “We will try to touch all our annual events, give groups the chance to participate and invite people who have moved away to come back to the Hills, like a family reunion.”
