Fountain Hills council asks staff for more information on transit options

For disabled, elderly riders in Fountain Hills

Fountain Hills Town Council has started discussing possible options for providing transit services in the community for the elderly and disabled. The town is facing a reduction in funding for the existing RideChoice services at the same time ridership has seen a significant increase.

Fountain Hills Director of Administration/Deputy Town Manager Dave Trimble told the town council during a budget work session Nov. 12, that the town needs to consider options going forward related to the ride services due to changes in funding.

Since 2015 the town has used the RideChoice option provided by the Regional Public Transit Authority, know as Valley Metro. The funding for the program has come from Public Transportation Funds available from the county-wide sales tax, and from Arizona Lottery Funds. The town has not had to use General Fund money to subsidize the program.
