When the Town Council meets this week it will consider a special event permit to host a half marathon/5K event in October.
Road Runner Sports is the permit applicant for the event featuring two races on the streets of Fountain Hills. It will include a post-race concert and festival area.
Fountain Hills would be the site of the Phoenix event with two others planned for San Diego and Atlanta.
The event will require street closures along the race routing. The scheduled date is Sunday, Oct. 16.
The council will discuss and possibly provide direction to staff on proposed changes to the Town Code.
This is part of a major update of the code.
Also, this is the time of year the council closely monitors items going before the State Legislature. This includes a review of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Legislative Bulletin at each council session.
The council will consider the appointment of two individuals to the town’s Board of Adjustment.
There are a number of items on the consent agenda related to special event liquor permits in conjunction with upcoming events such as the Great Fair, the Memorial Disc Golf Championship, and the Fine Art and Wine Affair.
The Community Theater is asking for a permit for its annual fundraising event in March and the Elks Club is seeking a permit for St. Patrick’s Day and Love in the Hills.
Prior to the regular session the council is scheduled to meet in closed executive session to discuss negotiations related to the MorningStar project.
Prior to the meeting there will be a reception in the Town Hall lobby in recognition of retiring Parks Supervisor Don Clark. The public is welcome to come and honor Don.
The regular session of the council begins at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
