Town offers spring sports

The Town of Fountain Hills Community Services continues to provide opportunities for residents to get out and get active with new tennis lessons and yoga courses being offered in the coming weeks.

Tennis
Spring tennis lessons will be hosted out of Golden Eagle Park between March and May for both youths and adults looking to learn the game.
Youth lessons will be held on Saturdays from March 28 to May 16. Pee Wee tennis for ages 5-6 will run from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Youth ages 7-9 can learn the game from 10 to 11 a.m. Ages 10-14 are welcome from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Adult lessons for adult beginners 18 and over will be held Tuesdays, March 31 to May 16, from 9:15 to 11 a.m. Adult intermediate classes will be held Tuesdays, from March 31 to May 19, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Another adult intermediate session will be held Thursdays, April 2 to May 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Yoga
Three types of yoga classes are being offered through Community Services, including lunchtime yoga, evening yoga and family-friendly yoga. All experience levels are welcome to all classes, and participants should bring a yoga mat and water.
Lunchtime Yoga will be held Mondays through March 30, from 12 to 12:45 p.m. for participants 18 and over. Cost is $12 per class. Wednesday lunchtime yoga run from through April 15 from 12 to 12:45 p.m. Cost is also $12 per class or $60 for the full run. Classes will be hosted out of the Community Center.
Evening yoga will be held Thursdays through March 19, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. These courses are open to participants 14 and up, and cost is $12 per class. This class will be hosted out of the Community Center.
Finally, Family-Friendly Yoga will be hosted out of Fountain Park and is open to all ages.
Classes will be Sundays from March 1-29, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Cost is $40 for the full run.
Another course will be offered from April 7 to May 12 on Tuesdays, from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is $60 for the full run.
Pitch, hit, run
The annual Pitch, Hit and Run competition is set to give youngsters a chance to show off their baseball skills. They’ll be tasked with pitching from 45 feet, hitting off a tee for accuracy and running a sprint from second base to home plate.
The event is free and will be hosted out of Fountain Park on April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. Ages seven to 14 are welcome to participate.
Jr. golf
Junior golf lessons will be hosted out of SunRidge Canyon golf course, where students will learn the rules, skills and techniques of golf.
Students must be signed up before the first lesson. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 24 through April 2, from 4 to 5 p.m. Ages five to 14 are invited and the cost is $55.
Open gym
Local youth are invited out for Friday Night Open Gym, hosted out of the middle school gymnasium.
Open play is the name of the game, with basketball, volleyball and more available to keep kids active. Parents can drop off their kids or stay for the event.
The open gym will be held Friday, March 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5.
Disc golf clinic
A disc golf clinic is being offered for participants 14 years of age and up.
The clinic will be held Saturday, April 4, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. All participants are asked to meet at the Kiwanis Ramada at Fountain Park. Pre-registration is required and cost is $19.
The clinic will be hosted in two parts. The first will focus on the basics of the game, with the second including instructed play on the course.
Bring water and discs if you have them. Discs will be provided, if needed, during class.
