The Town Council voted Tuesday, May 14, to allow staff to proceed with a grant application to the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority for its biennial grant for youth and amateur sports.
The grant would be used to build a new outdoor basketball court for Four Peaks Park and would cost the town an $85,000 match if it is awarded.
An existing court at Four Peaks Park was demolished to allow for new playground equipment that needed updating and relocating.

Community Services Director Rachael Goodwin told the council the new court would be built on the west side of the park off Del Cambre Avenue, adjacent to the tennis courts.
She said the grant awards would be made in the fall and, if awarded, construction could begin early next calendar year.
In her written report to the council Goodwin said the estimated cost of the project is $250,000, of which two-thirds ($165,000) would be covered by the grant and the town paying the remaining $85,000.
Finance Director Craig Rudolphy said the funding is available in the budget in money made available for grant match.
