The Fountain Hills High School track team was once again able to pull off some impressive feats with a small roster during last week’s competitions.

On Saturday, April 13, the Falcons competed in the Valley Christian Invitational. The men’s team took eighth place and the women’s team, with only two competitors, took fifth place.

Fountain Hills track only has one meet on the schedule for this week. The team will travel to Prescott to take part in the Prescott Invitational on Saturday, April 20.

Head coach Nick Goodman said he is happy with the success his team found in throwing events last week.

“The javelin throwers from Fountain Hills had great success with Porter Sweet, a freshman, winning the boys overall with a throw of 150-00.50 feet,” Goodman said. “Stephanie Lies (junior) won the girl’s overall with a throw of 111-02 feet.”

Lies was one of the only two girls on the female FHHS track team at the Valley Christian Invitational, along with Madison George.

Along with excelling in the javelin throw, Lies won both her discus and shot put event. Lies’ discus throw was 95’5’’ and her shot put was 31’10.5’’

While Lies cleaned up in the field events, George placed third in the 100m and 200m dashes. George ran the 100m in 13.09 seconds and the 200 in 26.6 seconds.

Of course, George also continued her domination in the pole vault event, winning and setting another new school record for highest vault at 12’9”.
