On Thursday, April 5,a select few members of the Falcons were invited to participate in the Sun Angel Classic at ASU.

Track team breaks some records

The Falcon track team had a successful past week, breaking school records and hosting their first home meet of the season.
On Monday, April 2, the Falcons welcomed 12 schools to their “Monday Night Madness.” The girls’ team took third overall while the boys’ team placed fifth.
On Thursday, April 5,a select few members of the Falcons were invited to participate in the Sun Angel Classic at ASU.
Finally, to round off the week, the Falcons travel up to Sedona on Saturday, April 7. The results of this match were unavailable as of press time.
Head coach Todd Brecto said he was happy with the performances of the team throughout the week but is looking forward to getting a solid week of practice in.
“We still have a lot of work to do over the next month to prepare ourselves for the next level of competition at the state championship,” Brecto said. “I am confident the athletes are willing to put in the work required.”
Fountain Hills
Leading off the boys’ team on April 2 was Sam Aker, who has had strong showings at the pole vaulting event this past season.
Aker had his strongest showing on Monday, taking the gold in the event by vaulting 13’1’’, breaking a school record.
Monday’s meet was also the first time Fountain Hills has hosted the javelin throw. Two Falcons placed in the event. Larkin Lipps threw the spear 118’ to place fifth while Brant Ralph placed eighth.
Lipps also placed fifth in the 100m event with a time of 11.65.
Two Falcons placed in the 800m. Lucas Elwood ran a personal best of 2:10 and Jacob Nichols also broke his personal best with a time of 2:20.
Elwood placed fourth in the 1600m with a time of 4:55.
The boys 4x100 relay squad of Lipps, Ahmed Momoh, Sam Aker, David Gonzales placed fifth with a time of 45.39.
Gonzales also took second in the high jump, clearing a height of 6’3’’.
Gonzales also placed in the long jump along with relay team member Ahmed Momoh. Momoh took fourth and Gonzales sixth.
In the throwing events, Matt Blaes throw the shot put 39’7”, placing fifth. Blaes also placed fifth in discus.
Ralph took third in discus with a toss of 129’.
For the Lady Falcons’ Steph Lies placed second in the javelin with a throw of 103’. Lies was followed by Amara Feyrer-Melk, who placed sixth, and Lauren Schultz, who placed eighth. All three qualified for state competition.
The Lady Falcons dominated the triple and long jump, too. Amara Feyrer-Melk finished first and Sherifa Moho placed third in the long jump. They finished first and second in the triple, respectively.
The 4x400 relay team posted their fastest time of the year in 4:16, claiming the silver medal. Relay members were Madison George, Alaina Olmstead, Sherifa Olmstead and Lauren Schultz.
Alaina Olmstead placed second in the 200m and third in the 300m.
Sun Angel Classic
In this by-invitation-only event plenty of Flacons broke more records and took the top spot in their event.
Alaina Olmstead placed in the 200m and 400m to make her have the fastest time in Division III.
Olmstead placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 59.2, setting a new school record.
Madison George vaulted 11’3’’ to take third place in the competition and become the number one pole vaulter in Division III.
Amara Feryer-Melk participated in the long and triple jump. She is now the best long jump in the Division III and in the top three for the triple.
David Gonzales was selected to participate in the long jump, triple jump and high jump. Gonzales is rated as one of the top five high jumpers in the state for Division III
Matthais Blaes was selected to throw the shot. Blaes achieved a personal record, throwing 40’7”.
Brant Ralph was selected to throw the discus. Ralph is currently ranked third in the state for Division III in this event
Lucas Elwood was selected to run the 1600 and 3200. Elwood is just on the edge of qualifying for state in both events.
Steph Lies was selected to throw the shot. Lies’ best event is the javelin, where she is ranked in the top eight in the state for Division III.
