Traffic policing

There is a letter to the editor in the Saturday Scottsdale Republic by James Anderson that reflects completely what many of us have expressed in our own local paper recently regarding traffic safety and street noise. I have also petitioned the town engineer and police department to address these same issues.

To paraphrase Mr. Anderson: Street police have effectively changed traffic laws to allow speed limits on town streets to be 15 MPH over the posted limit for cars and 25 MPH for motorcycles; noise limits of 120 decibels are permitted on automobile mufflers and are never imposed at all on motorcycles unless they shatter neighborhood windows; turn signals are now optional and never need to be used to change lanes; and no laws apply at all for neighborhood traffic between 1 and 6 a.m.

Across Maricopa County, traffic policing has been noticeably reduced in the last two to three years, which causes safety concerns among the citizens.
