On March 13, 2018, headlines read three tourists were killed and one severely injured after being hit by a car on the sidewalk near Fountain Park. The driver of the automobile was not arrested, nor charged. Apparently old news, short memory to the tragedy.

In an answer to my questions, I have been told by Mayor Kavanagh, our town leader, “there was no probable cause for an arrest” and she has not followed through so as “not to interfere.”

Please help me, am I an alien or just plain stupid? Maybe my law enforcement background and expectations are too high. What is going on? Everyone I know is talking about it. Time will heal, and most will forget, but most likely not the families of the victims.

I like to say, letters to the editor are like talking to yourself; and maybe that is all I am doing.

Editor’s note: The Times continues to inquire about this incident, but no information has yet been made public. A follow-up will be reported as soon as those details are provided.
