True facts

I was going to respond to Kimberly Miller’s first letter two weeks ago but didn’t, figuring she was just another uninformed individual looking for a cause.

This week, however, was different, as she remains uninformed but states facts that are not only totally wrong but accuse the hunting community of something they have nothing to do with.

There are numerous studies that have been done to accurately prove that controlled and intelligent harvest of anything only contributes to the health and longevity of the particular species.

This week, however, was different, as she remains uninformed but states facts that are not only totally wrong but accuse the hunting community of something they have nothing to do with.

She compares the annual bison hazing in southwest Montana as being associated with hunters. Kimberly, we live on Horse Butte in West Yellowstone for seven months of the year and this event takes place literally in our front yard.

Do we agree with it? No, but to blame this on hunters is totally irresponsible and basically a lie. Try the beef industry lobbyists who buy the politicians stating this is a health issue for the real villains. Call the Buffalo Field Campaign and ask them if they support controlled harvest of the bison by hunters; you might be surprised with the answer. I know several of them.

As a favor to us all, open your checkbook and show the receipts of just how much you gave to support your cause. Take a look at www.fws.gov/hunting/whatdo and learn the real facts of who pays vs the PETA drivel.

Millions of people enjoy the outdoors and respective wildlife because of the efforts of American sportsmen and women, not because of the organizations that you profess are saving the world.
