Trump came to Phoenix, against Mayor Stanton’s wishes, while people were still on edge over the white supremacist/neo-Nazi domestic terrorist attack that killed one person and injured many; several members of our Navy were dead or missing after a disastrous collision; and concerns about Korea and Afghanistan were at a heightened level.
Given all this, most people would have expected any President to have a moment of silence, lament the loss of life, and reassure us regarding the myriad problems facing our country.

Another devastating week for Democracy!
That never happened. Instead, Trump’s speech was once again all about himself; how unfairly he’s been treated and how record-setting his achievements and crowd size are—all lies. He also continued his attacks on any who opposed him, including a war hero suffering from brain cancer and our all-important free press which he labeled as “very dishonest, bad people.”
This divisive, vengeful president then implemented a ban on transgender people serving in the armed services even though military leaders previously opposed this move as wrong and probably dangerous to our defense capabilities.
Next, with a massive hurricane bearing down on Texas, our law-and-order President’s concerns were focused instead on flouting the law by pardoning Joe Arpaio, a convicted criminal and one of the most cruel sheriffs around, who racially profiled and terrorized citizens with Latino names, while letting 600 child abuse cases go un-investigated.
Rule of law evidently only applies to minorities. Trump deals harshly with undocumented immigrants for minor infractions, splitting up families and deporting long-time residents. But, he invites Russians (our enemies who illegally infiltrated our elections) into our Oval Office, gives them confidential information and attempts to obstruct investigations into his administration’s involvement. Incompetent president—self-serving dictator!
Paraphrasing Pogo: “We have met the enemy and he is Trump.”
