Admire or despise him, the campaign rally appearance of Republican presidential forerunner Donald Trump in Fountain Park will bring publicity and business to the town.
Businesses on the Avenue of the Fountains, which will be closed to vehicular traffic, encourage customers to park in the lot behind the stores where spaces will be reserved.
Mayor Linda Kavanagh said business owners were “very excited at the prospect of so many people coming to town and what the exposure will mean for future business and tourism.”
“We are not allowing any outside vendors so that our local Fountain Hills’ businesses will be the ones to benefit from the crowd,” she added.
“People watching from all over the world will see our beautiful town and our magnificent Fountain."
Euro Pizza Café owner Merita Kraya anticipates huge crowds stopped at her restaurant adjacent to Fountain Park. She will serve a reduced menu inside the restaurant and provide tables outside where soda and water can be purchased. “Everyone I can find to work….friends and family will be here” in addition to about 30 employees, she said.
Oyo Frozen Yogurt owner Alex Moss will open his business at 8 a.m. and has brought in twice his normal supply of product. He also will have additional employees to serve the public as they head to the rally. Card$mart and the Post Office contract station in Plaza Waterfront will be open.
Lexington Suites’ general manager and a Trump campaign volunteer Gary Lvov said his hotel was already booked with spring baseball fans and horologists attending the regional National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors in the Community Center. Lvov said Ibrahim Sabbagh, Fireside Inn restaurant manager, was planning a special buffet after Trump’s appearance.
Hair salon owners Park Avenue Hair in Plaza Fountainside and O’Hair International at Plaza Waterfront will be open but feared that customers might run into traffic problems to keep their appointments.
Spike’s Treats, also in Plaza Fountainside, decided to close.
The Chamber of Commerce suggested anyone planning to attend the event visit nearby businesses: All American Sports Grill, Sami Fine Jewelry, Arrivederci, Monroe’s Bar & Grill, Sun Baked Pastry Shop, Phil’s Filling Station, Parkview Taphouse Bar & Grill, Keller Williams Realty, Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate, Raymond James Terry Cox financial advisor, Roast’s, Homesmart Christine Schroeder, Gridley’s and Colors Consignment.
