Two garden classes on the horizon

Fountain Hills Community Garden will sponsor a class featuring a master gardener at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7.

The topic of Liz Segal, Ph.D., will be “When is the Best Time to Plant Vegetables in the Low Desert?”

The one-hour class will be offered in the Yavapai room of the Community Center.

Admission is free for garden members or $5 for non-members.

Community Garden memberships are $10 for the year and can be purchased at the event. A number of raised beds are available for leasing at $250, which includes garden membership.

Library involvement

The Fountain Hills Branch of Maricopa County Library is leasing a plot in the community garden and members to help tend it.

Master gardener Evelyn Brumfield will talk about gardening from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9.

The second session will be 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, when participants will help the library staff break ground.
