Two new open meeting law claims filed in Fountain Hills

Stem from lawsuit against mayor, call to the public

The Town of Fountain Hills has been hit with two open meeting law violation complaints.

The first claims that town resources were used for the defense and indemnification of a personal defamation lawsuit filed against Mayor Gerry Friedel absent discussion or vote at a public meeting. The second is tied to events surrounding the removal and eventual return of the open call to the public portion of local meetings.

When reached for comment, Community Relations Director Mike Pelton told the Times Independent the town does not comment on pending complaints.
